asp.net - Umbraco, is it just me or is it really hard to use? -
Some of you are looking for feedback on people who have recently evaluated umbraco
I am on a search for the 'best' cm which balances the extension of use / extension / optimization etc. to use as the basis of a new vertical product, I am in the planning stages on that, So in the last month or so I am downloading, reading the source code And I am making a test site in every ASPN.NET CMS, I can get my hands - and so far I have not been able to enjoy Graffit CMS, Mojoportal, Oxyte, Orchard, Kubu and some others who do not have me on top of my head. are missing.
For each of them, except for Umbraco , I am running under a couple
but after the Aquarius, after wrestling, some During the hours, writing scripts in widgets in C #, hours (especially Graffiti), templates for adding pages, customizing templates, and in some cases. It's been running for about 2 days, and now watching the video one more morning, and then creating pages etc., I'm still unable to operate a simple site, and even Es I Regularly accidental work (not to mention being a dog) has been found ...
So, the question is: Am I doing this wrong? Or is it really hard to work with? And more importantly, if I continue to move forward, will it be worth it?
Update one year later (February / April 2011): My initial impressions are still accurate, Umbraco is different than other CMS I already have Used, and took a little more than usual to get 'this' for me, but now I have to say that I have a better appreciation of the product, how it does, and how it does-- and Raise it all up, it really is really nice Does - especially with the latest release of 4.6. 1. So call me a convert - I'm glad I got stuck out of it and then took another look. I only update this post now, after one year, so that my initial negative 'review' does not leave for here.
Learning curve for Umbraco is small but standing. Once these are all 'clicks', you will decrease and run in small order.
It is different from other CMS platforms, in this you do not give anything out of the box - just work with an empty canvas. Other CMS systems will install you with a default template and will allow you to drop into pre-built functionality. By Umbraco design, that's not exactly like that.
This is ideal for developers and designers who want 100% control over their code / markup.
This does not generate anything for you.
Version 4.7 (currently released candidate) introduces the razor syntax to create a macro. It is far from the need of XSLT + XPath which I think is a big obstacle for many people here So that if you are not familiar with the razor, then it is very comfortable compared to XML based offerings.
The video is outlined below by another poster. There is a small price to pay $ 20 to get up and running quickly.
